Bargees will not be intimidated

THE National Bargees Travellers Association (NBTA) is going all-out to strengthen itself against what its members believe is pressure from the Canal & River Trust to evict them from the waterways by its new rules.

This coming Sunday, 19th April it has organised The Towpath Gathering to both publicise its efforts and gain more support, telling us:

Not be intimidated

"As the Canal & River Trust aim to introduce extra-legal rules and evict Continuous Cruisers from 1st May, we unite to show the world that we are a vibrant community and we will not be intimidated!

Meet other boaters and learn more about the threats we face from CaRT and its efforts to evict boats."

Legal advice

At the event, being held in Victoria Park off the Regents Canal, there will be an opportunity for boaters to network and get legal advice on the rule changes from experts.

The event runs from 12 noon to 8pm, featuring stages with live music, gypsy folk and rock, stalls, poetry, arts and crafts, food and drink courtesy of the Floating Café. Canal gate entrance, nearest tube is Bethnal Green.
