University crew had to be rescued

THE Oxford University's women's boat crew have had to be rescued from the Thames by the RNLI lifeboat after being water-logged.

The choppy water overcame the low-sided boat, it quickly filling, with the lifeboat out on exercise and thus able to rescue the damsels in distress, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Rescue

The eight rowers and cox were discovered in their predicament by the Chiswick RNLI crew, who quickly came to the rescue, bringing the crew to the bank.

The crew were on the tide, that together with a strong wind against tide created a swell that the boat could not handle, with water splashing over the side of the boat that its pump could not handle either, and the boat sinking.

The lifeboat rescued the crew and the boat was also eventually rescued.
