Body in Sawley Cut—man arrested

THE Body of a woman was discovered on Easter Sunday floating in Sawley Cut next to Derby Motorboat Club, with a man arrested.

Treated as suspicious

Police, treating the death as suspicious, have arrested a 65 years old unnamed man after the body of the woman was discovered floating in the water, Keith Gudgin tells us.

The woman, who has not yet been identified, believed to be in her 50's, was found after Easter activities had taken place at Derby Motorboat Club.

The towpath was cordoned off for forensic examination after the woman was discovered at 10.20 on Sunday evening by boaters.

Cause of death not known

A post-mortem examination of the woman could not ascertain the cause of death and so further tests will be carried out. In the meantime the police are asking both the moorers at Derby Motorboat Club and on Sawley Cut to come forward if they have any information that could help the enquiry.
