What rubbish!

TODAY'S level of journalism leaves a great deal to be desired, with ridiculous stories being published, but one last Friday by Topix Hertfordshire is amongst the worst.

Its headlines blaze out—114,000 new lock gates for Watford stretch of Grand Union Canal! Allan Richards tells us.

28,500 locks!

Surely anyone with a modicum of sense should realise that there cannot be (allowing four gates for every lock) 28,500 locks on a short stretch of a canal!

It goes on to tell us—The work, which has been carried out over the winter months by the Canal & River Trust, forms part of the charity's major five months 45 million maintenance programme to improve the 2,000 miles of canals and rivers it cares for across Wales and England.

Definitely something wrong somewhere.
