A DRUNK steerer of a narrowboat caused havoc on the Shropshire Union Canal when she careered at full speed along the waterway smashing into moored boats and eventually ramming one head on causing thousands of pound worth of damage.

A narrowboat owner managed to leap onto Living the Dream and stop the engine, bringing the destruction to an end, Mick Fitzgibbons tells us.

Arrested

The police arrived on the scene and the woman steerer was immediately arrested.

This occurred last Wednesday 11th March with the damaged inflicted on the boats at Golden Nook moorings just after bridge 114 towards Chester on the waterway, with Living the Dream coming from the Tattenhall Marina area.

Though of course there are witnesses to the damage, if anyone has any information regarding this boat and/or its owner or witnessed it travelling along the Shroppie on that day, could they please contact the Police by dialling 101 and quoting Log #732 11/03/2015; Crime Ref: CC15068963.
