EA close Leicester Line

THE Environment Agency have closed the Leicester Line owing to pollution entering the waterway from adjoining land at Kibworth.

The five Kibworth locks are closed to navigation in an attempt to stop the spread of the pollution, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Cannot be used

This means Cranes Lock to Kibworth Top Lock cannot be used until the pollution can be controlled.  There is no intimation as to when the navigation will be re-opened, though Canal & River Trust tell that it will review the situation on Saturday, 3rd January.
