BWML focus on residentials

WITH the downturn in leisure boating drastically affecting many marinas, British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML) are now concentrating on the more lucrative residential market, obtaining councils' planning permission throughout its marinas.

Full planning permission

This year alone it has established 537 residential moorings across 15 of its marinas, all with full planning permission for occupants, with it latest being more residential berths at its Galgate Marina near Lancaster on the Lancaster Canal.

With berth prices from £2,850 BWML is making it easier than ever for customers looking to take up residential moorings, telling us it is still maintaining the highest level quality of services it provides.

The seven new berths at Galgate will be completed this month, and will be available for either narrowboats or wide beams, and of course come with full residential use approval, takings its number up to 26, with interest already being shown by prospective customers.

Local authorities

It is just 12 months since the London Assembly released its ‘Moor or Less' report, encouraging the establishment of more residential moorings to help address housing shortages in the capital. With many more conurbations reporting similar shortages, BWML's response has been warmly welcomed by local authorities across the country.

Commented Managing Director of BWML, Jeff Whyatt:

"I am delighted to report that our investment in residential moorings has attracted strong demand. Our business will only succeed if we listen to what our customers and potential customers want, and residential moorings continues to be high on the list. I would urge anyone interested in finding out what's involved to visit Galgate Marina, Main Road, Galgate, Lancaster, where they will receive a warm welcome and all the information they need."
