Time to fight back

HAVING read the many articles posted regarding cyclists and canoeists, whilst CaRT seem to not consider this to be a problem, every licence paying boater, has at some time encountered one or the other, writes Peter Ponting.

If, as is inevitable, a serious accident involving a pedestrian/boater happens with a cyclist, CaRT may actually listen for once, but I hold my breath.

Better language

Hoping not to appear to be a Victor Meldew. Regarding cyclists, when mooring up in an area known for speeding cyclists, remove your pole from the roof of your boat and place it on your boat and across the towpath. This produces even better language from the Lycra louts.

Canoeists can be good fun too. Say nothing as they speed past. Watch them carefully, as they have to return. As they approach, smiling with their goals achieved, start turning your boat taking up the whole canal. That usually stops them, and the language is very colourful
