THE police have released a photo of a 70 years old woman who was brutally attacked on a canal towpath walking with her daughter in the centre of Birmingham.

She was waking along the top of Aston Flight on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal when two men assaulted her, grabbed her handbag then pushed her to the ground.

Fractured cheek

The woman suffered a fractured cheek, cuts and bruises in the attack as she walked along the towpath near the boat services at the top of the flight with her daughter.

This occurred during the evening of the 11th of October, but she has now allowed West Midlands Police to release the photograph showing her horrific injuries despite wishing to remain anonymous.

Cowardly attack

Detective Constable Mark Timmins, from the Birmingham Acquisitive Crime team, commented:

"I would like to commend the lady's bravery for allowing the image of her injuries to be released. This was a cowardly attack and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen the robbery or who knows the people involved to call me or one of the team on Birmingham 101."

The attackers are described as black and around 5ft 10" tall. They were both wearing hoodies with the hoods pulled up.
