Cherwell feed dries up

LACK of water on the Oxford Canal caused by the low level of the Cherwell is causing problems for boaters.

The primary feed between Cropredy and Banbury is from the Cherwell, that is extremely low, and at present (Thursday) no feed at all, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Raise water level

However the Environment Agency is currently investigating an illegal an abstraction from the river upstream of the canal, that is preventing water coming down, and so hope a feed can be re-established shortly.

The area most affected is between Cropredy Lock 25 (pictured) and Banbury Lock 29.

CaRT advises that when mooring, boaters should use slack ropes to compensate for changes in water levels.
