Saul Waterways Pageant

Published: Thursday, 21 August 2014

SOMETHING different on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal as a parade of Historic Lifeboats will take place at Saul Junction for the Bank Holiday weekend as part of the Saul Waterways Pageant.

They are celebrating 60 years of local lifeboat builder R W Davis and Son, better known perhaps for his Northwich Trader class of steel boats, but also a builder of lifeboats, Alan Tilbury relates.

Display

The convoy of lifeboats will arrive at Saul Junction at 11am on Saturday 23rd August and the procession will be repeated on Sunday 24th August and Monday 25 August, with also a lifeboat display at Saul Junction Marina over the weekend.

Two steam-powered launches will be taking part on Saturday and Sunday, with an illuminated boat parade on Saturday night. On Monday there will be a boat jumble and other highlights include a real ale bar and waterways activities for children.

Boat handling contest

There will also be a boat-handling contest with prizes, and prizes for Best Boat in Bloom and Best Kept Engine Room.

It is all free with free parking.
