THE Annual Meeting of Canal & River Trust will be held on Tuesday 8th July at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre within the new Birmingham Library complex.

The meeting is open to the public, so boaters and other users are welcome to attend, when we are told the Trust will present its Report & Accounts and look back over the highlights and challenges from the past 12 months, as well as looking forward at the Trust's plans and priorities for the year ahead.

Present

The Chairman and Chief Executive, and others involved in different roles within the Trust will be present.

150 spaces have been allocated at the event on a first-come first-served basis. Booking is via an on-line ticketing system, with more information available on the Trust's website: canalrivertrust.org.uk/annual-meeting. However, we are not aware if spaces are still available.

Considerable progress

Tony Hales, Chairman of the Canal & River Trust, comments:

"The past year has been one of considerable progress for the Trust on many fronts. Establishing a new Trust is challenging, in a year that has seen both water shortage and tremendous deluge. We have therefore sought to be imaginative in how we care for and manage our waterways.

"One of the really exciting changes has been the way so many new people are now involved in running and helping the Trust. Volunteering, which has long traditions on the waterways, has truly blossomed. This has been refreshing, challenging, stimulating and is helping us become a much more open and welcoming organisation. Our new chief executive, Richard Parry, has also had a tremendous impact, meeting and listening to so many of those who use and care for our waterways since joining us last July."

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre/ Birmingham Library is situated in the heart of Birmingham in Centenary Square, within walking distance from Birmingham's New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street stations.
