Culverts repaired

BOTH the failed culverts on the Shropshire Union Canal beyond Chester have now been repaired, with the navigation fully open.

The repair of the last of the two at Bridge 133 at Backford was competed yesterday, Tuesday, with the navigation reopened this morning, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Open for Christmas

Yesterday saw the removal of the two temporary dams that allowed access to the culvert, with the canal then filling.  This means that as promised, the waterways will be open for the Christmas period giving boaters access to the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port.

This was the second culvert that failed on a short stretch of waterway, the first being at Bridge 136 at Little Stanley that was completed, with other culverts being closely examined.
