Shroppie culvert repaired

THE damaged culvert on the western end of the Shropshire Union Canal has been repaired and the waterway is again open along the short section.

It was a culvert at Bridge 136 that failed, preventing boats getting to a special event at the museum in late November, with the waterway having to be closed to allow repairs, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Another failure

This failure at Little Stanley needed dams to be put in place and pumps installed to keep the water level beyond the failure, but the waterway is not yet fully open however as the other culvert failure (Another culvert fails) at the nearby Bridge 133 is still being worked on.

It was decided to undertake work on this at the same time, in order to cut costs.
