Crumbling around us

AFTER the latest failure—today (Monday)— our contributor in charge of stoppages, Keith Gudgin well describes the waterways as 'crumbling around us'!

This time it is a lock landing on the Calder & Hebble Navigation that has collapsed, forcing it to be closed to boats.

Cooper's Bridge

This is the Battyeford Lock landing on the navigation near Cooper's Bridge near the junction of the Huddersfield Broad Canal.  It is the near side lock landing just out of the photograph that has collapsed.

We are told the lock landing will remain closed to boats whilst an investigation takes place into the cause of the collapse and what work will be are necessary to repair it. Engineers were on site today to ascertain the damage.
