THE Youthful Venturer Narrowboat Project (YVNP) is asking boaters to ‘phone in' today and support its bid for a grant from the Peoples Millions, writes Allan Richards.

Birmingham based YVNP wishes to purchase and refit a 70ft narrowboat to encourage children and young people to take part in educational day trips and overnight residential opportunities on the canal network.

Peoples Millions

The Peoples Millions is a partnership between Big Lottery Fund and ITV, where the public help decide which local community projects get up to £50,000 of Lottery Funding.

As reported in Vote for a boat, YVNP's bid is in the final and will feature on ITV Central News at 6pm this evening where they will go head-to-head with another project in a bid to gain the most phone-in votes and secure £50,000 towards their project.

Phone lines now open

Whilst the telephone numbers to support the projects will be given on the news, phone lines are now open (Monday 25th November 9pm to midnight). The voting number for YVNP is 0871 626 88 34 and you can vote up to 10 times per phone line. Calls from BT land lines cost 11p (calls from mobiles may be more).

Further details of YVNP bid can be found on the Peoples Millions website.
