Keith must go!

ANGLERS so worried about their fish stocks in the Severn, and not allowed to shoot 'Keith' the seal, that is upsetting them so much, have now permission to remove it to the sea.

The seal has been a novelty for the public for a year now, it having its followers who see it as natural and somewhat of an attraction, but fishermen want it gone as of course its feeds on fish, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Pressure from Anglers Trust

With a great deal of pressure from the the Anglers Trust, who originally wanted it shot, it has persuaded the conservation group Natural England to grant a licence to have it removed from the river and into the sea.

However, it may not be the only seal in the Severn, as there have been sighting of two together near Diglis Lock sun bathing on the mooring pontoons. Keith, incidentally a female, was first spotted in the river in November last year, it is thought on flood water.

It will be the Mercia Inshore Search and Rescue Team that will wait until there has been a firm sighting of Keith before carrying out the job of catching and transporting the seal to the sea.
