Email: Boaters contributions

I cannot agree more with Geoff Low about boaters' contributions being simplistic.

Years ago I was treasurer of a boat club and the cheque for the clubhouse, land, basin, slipway and linear moorings was made out to the estates department not licensing.

I do not know whether CaRT has just gone for the easy option, or they are understating boaters contributions to justify the wasting of money on schemes such as the deliberate vandalisation of historic structures by the carving of graffiti, or turning navigations into duck ponds by planting weeds instead of dredging.

A true calculation of boaters' contributions through all CaRT departments and businesses needs to be made.

CaRT is also receiving through the government large sums of money, but how much is the government receiving from boat related businesses.

A calculation of the taxes the government receive from boat related businesses and the people working within these businesses needs to be made.

Without these figures the true contribution by boaters is pure guess work.
