Keadby rail drawbridge broken

KEADBY rail drawbridge that has undergone extensive structural repairs and track renewal has broken.

The work was completed just three weeks ago and the navigation re-opened, but is today, Monday, now again closed, reports Keith Gudgin.

KeadbySliding2Network Rail tell that it has encountered an unforeseen issue during the recommissioning phase of the bridge movement mechanism.

Cannot move across canal

This issue prevents the bridge from moving from across the canal which prevents any passage of canal traffic.

It is currently working towards a solution to complete the commissioning phase and return the canal to operational use.

But there will now be an extended stoppage whilst the Canal & River Trust and Network Rail agree interim arrangements and dates with Network Rail’s engineers.
