The Comic Opera of the New Junction Canal
IS HOW our Keith Gudgin describes the repairs of the gearbox on the Don Doors when reporting the latest escapade.
One of the guillotine locks' gearboxes on the New Junction Canal being out of order then 'repaired' time and time again.
First failed in December
It was way back on the 24th December that the gearbox first failed with the 'doors' in the down position thus stopping navigation.
Then it went away for repairs to be then refitted, but for some reason there was the warning that it would need attention in the future—and it did. As it failed again after just two weeks.
So once again away the gearbox went for repair to be reinstated, but this time we are told that it is awaiting a specialised tool that will enable that 'door' to work.
Weather and high water
The long delay—since the 24th of December—was blamed on the weather and high water.
Comic Opera?—That just about describes it! For the navigation is still closed.
