Two more winter works bite the dust through cash shortage

ADDING to the many winter works that have been cancelled, come yet two more!

One is the work needed on the top gate of Lock 37 at Marsworth on the Grand Union Canal, Keith Gudgin reports.

Due to resource limitations

The reason for the cancellation, Canal & River Trust tells is 'due to resource limitations'.

So it has made the decision to defer this work from the winter programme, to enable work on an urgent leak repair at Tringford Reservoir.

The stoppage was required to remove, backfill and replace the copings on the lock, that is now deferred to a future winter works programme.

Leeds & Liverpool Canal

The other winter works cancellation is on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, and it is another culvert, Keith reports!

It is Culvert 80 at Newburgh, and once again the trust has removed this work from tthe winter works programme while it reviews the scope and cost of the project as 'the forecast cost has increased significantly from initial estimates'.

The stoppage is required to carry out some repairs to the culvert and wash wall repairs at  Douglas embankment.

Again, the trust will hope to undertake this work in a future winter works programme.
