Hope for Leeds & Liverpool culvert repair completion

WORK is progressing on the repairs to the collapsed culvert on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

This occurred on the 9th of November near Foulridge Tunnel North East Portal, Keith Gudgin reports.

The culvert has been successfully relined to prevent any further leakage and the build-up of silt has been cleared from the bottom of the lock.

Also complete

Also repairs to the offside washwall where a sink hole had appeared are also complete, and the damaged towpath side washwall has been removed.

Works to repair and reinstate this towpath side washwall is underway this week.

The contractors have confirmed that navigation will resume on the afternoon of Wednesday 20th December. However the towpath will remain closed until Monday 22nd January to undertake reinstatement works to the manhole and installing access steps down to the outlet of the culvert.
