Overloaded boat stuck in Lincoln's Glory Hole

IT WAS a very embarrassed boater who attempted to get his overload boat though Lincoln's Glory Hole getting stuck in the process.

As can be seen in the picture (courtesy of LincolnLive) Ray's boat had its roof loaded with materials, obviously higher than the roof of the bridge, but decided to make a run for it, getting stuck in the process in the bridge at the junction of the Fosdyke & Witham Navigations.

It was a very embarrassed Ray who stood there whilst the fire brigade people worked away at releasing his boat with a crowd looking on, that they eventually managed, advising him to get rid of the stuff on the boat's roof if returning, with Ray telling LincolnLive:

"The Glory Hole is a lot narrower than the rest of the river so there is a heck of a flow on. I thought I could make it through but I didn't have enough power.

"Like an idiot, I stepped off the boat and onto the ledge to try and shove the boat out. The current caught it and pulled the boat away and I only had one rope on the back. I was stuck on one side and the boat was stuck on the other side.

"There's no damage, only to my pride. It caused utter chaos with the fire brigade."Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue sent two Swift Water Rescue Teams to rescue Ray from the ledge and assist with removing the boat from under the bridge.

Though he escaped the incident with no injuries, the load on the boat's roof was moved.
