It will take an estimated six to eight weeks to repair culvert

THOUGH over a week since the Leeds & Liverpool Canal was closed due to a suspect culvert, nothing has yet been discovered.

The dams were quickly put in place, the fish rescued and the water drained, to allow the required detailed surveys, but these are still awaited, reports Keith Gudgin.

Suspect failed culvert

The problem is a suspected failed culvert next to Wanless Bridge (145), with the navigation closed from Foulridge Tunnel east portal to Lock 51 the bottom of Greenberfield Flight.

We are told the CCTV surveys will provide a more accurate timescale of when the work can start but it is expected it will take from six to eight weeks to accomplish.

This statement rather shows that the culvert has failed and needs repairing.
