Broken bridge closes Northampton Arm

A BROKEN lift bridge on the Northampton Arm has closed the connection between the Grand Union and the Nene.

The counter balance on the lift bridge towards the bottom of the flight has broken off, with the bridge firmly stuck in its closed position, meaning there can be no navigation Keith Gudgin tells us.

Our contributor James Henry sent us his photograph, telling us he is stuck waiting to drop down onto the Nene!

The entire flight is closed as there is no winding hole in its length, but engineers are attending today.

It is understood however that a crane will be needed to lift the deck, with not intimation when this can be arranged.
