Pump breakdown causes Grand Union Canal restrictions

Published: Monday, 11 December 2017

THERE are restrictions in force on the summit level at Tring on the Grand Union Canal as the pump supplying the water has broken down.

The restrictions between Cowroast Lock (46) and Lock 39 are allowing boating only between the hours of 11am to 4pm Keith Gudgin tells us.

Leaking

No boat will be allowed into the flight after 2.30pm. It is known that the canal is leaking, and the reservoir is now low so can no longer give sufficient supply to the waterway.

There is no intimation if these restrictions will be lifted in the the near future, only that there is the intention to attempt to overcome the complete closure of the waterway by the installation of a tempory pump.
