Catfish discovered in Walsall Canal

NORMALLY found in rivers in South America, a catfish has been discovered—alive—in Walsall Canal.

It was contractors working on a lock on the waterway that found the Catfish in the pound between locks 1 and 2 of Walsall Canal, and rescued it, Alan Tilbury reports.

Dumped in the canal

It is believed that it was bought as a pet, then grew too large and was dumped in the canal, even though they are not usually sold as tropical fish.

It was when the pound had to be drained and fish rescued, that the catfish, that does not normally survive in our climate, was discovered.

But it has now been passed on to an aquarium that is taking care of it.
