Body in Regents Canal

Published: Friday, 02 October 2015

THE 'safe' towpaths seem to be getting a battering these days, for in addition to the attack on a young woman on the Calder & Hebble towpath and the closing-off of a 'lethal' towpath on the Rochdale Nine, a body has now been found in the Regents Canal.

The body was of a man found in the waterway by Islington Tunnel on the Regent's Canal, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Murder

The police are treating this as murder, with detectives still trying to formally identify the victim whose partially decomposed body was noticed underwater near the entrance to the tunnel.

The towpath was cordoned off for a distance from the tunnel entrance whilst forensic officers examined the towpath and bank with police divers searching the canal bed.

LATEST

The man has been identified by his tattoos, and is Sebastiano Magnanini, an art thief, but the post-mortem examination has been inconclusive, and detectives are still investigating his death.  He was discovered tied to a shopping trolley, and as one of our contributors tells us, even the police realise it was not an accident.  So no blame for CaRT!
