Stone lock should be open Monday

FROM all accounts, the closed Newcastle Road Lock in Stone that suffered a problem, should be open again by Monday.

The crew were hoping to finish grouting today, but the weather is not in its favour, but when done the brickwork to the lock floor will need to be replaced before the lock is re-opened, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Pound started to empty

Andrew Smithers writes: The pound above started to empty on Tuesday 8th September and boats started to have difficulty getting through. CaRT discovered a hole in the upper chamber and closed the lock. Andrew's picture shows the situation.

It is currently trying to fill what is described as a huge cavity underneath and hopes to have to lock open again on Monday. Meanwhile there's a huge queue of boats North and South of Stone.
