IT HAS been agreed by the Environment Agency that it will partially reopen the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation, that is at present closed, today, Wednesday,  between 8.00am and 4.30pm.

The waterway was closed on the 19th of August, and has remained so ever since, with boats waiting at both sides of the stoppage at Doncaster Lock, that was caused by oil spillage, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Move pollution booms

Canal & River Trust staff are on hand to assist boaters, and the pollution booms will be moved to one side to allow passage through a single gate at the lock.

This means that broad beam boats will have no access as the passage through the lock that will be closely monitored by Environmental Agency staff to see that the oil is not spread.

UPDATE:

The Agency has cleared all the oil, and the lock is fully functional.
