Something needs to be done

KEITH is of course right to say that something needs to be done about the sort of behaviour he has encountered, writes Martin Cox.

The current crime record for Banbury shows two reported incidents for the Spiceball area, so obviously CaRT are not relaying the information that it is suggested they have, and a lot of people are reluctant to notify the police.

Neighbourhood team

There is a neighbourhood team for Banbury who can be contacted, so  I suggest that anybody who has this problem uses '101'. Enough reports will make this a ‘hot spot' and produce action. Absence of witnesses might hinder a prosecution but does not mean that a crime has not been committed.

In reality, in this day of 'targets' and significant cutbacks in the money that the government allocates to policing, you are unlikely to get anything done unless the numbers build up.

Further pressure can come from Banbury Town Council, as long as it is made aware of the problem by those who have suffered this type of behaviour. After all, the Town Council have organised several Canal Festivals.
