Boater donated steel

THE repair of Dallow lock would have taken much longer had it not been for the generosity of a local boater, writes Ralph Freeman.

CaRT did not have in stock any suitable steel to repair/replace the bottom lock gate collar, but a boater that moors nearby had. So in order to 'do his bit' for the queue of boats waiting either side of the lock, he gave the repair crew at the site the steel they needed to do the emergency repair.

Camararderie

That's typical of the camaraderie and 'can do' attitude that used to be the norm amongst boaters in pre-CaRT days. The 'can-do' attitude largely remains I find, (out of necessity for many?) but the camaraderie is on the wane now that divide and rule seems to be the name of the game.

That is such a misguided and non-productive policy, but not unexpected from the jobsworths we now have in charge of the canals. They really don't seem to have a clue about boaters/boating/canal maintenance (delete where applicable) do they?
