Narcissistic comment

I CANNOT allow the article by John Wallace, 'Timothy and Pru a danger' to go unchallenged, writes Pam Pickett.

It is not only I find John Wallace's comment in respect of this 'geriatric' couple to be egotistical and rather cruel, boater Tony Smith observes that given the age of Timothy and Pru he thinks it to be fantastic that they wish to have fun on our waterways, and certainly should not be so unpleasantly criticised for doing so.

Past first flush of youth

Does John Wallace I wonder, given his emphasis on 'geriatric', advocate that given a good many of us are past our first flush of youth we too should be banned from boating?

However, as for his complaint that this couple cruised at night, as I understand it the waterways they cruised were urban thus reasonably lit with no locking involved. Whilst I do agree with John Wallace that cruising at night by pleasure craft is frowned upon and could end up being considered 'reckless' by an insurer should an accident occur, Timothy and Pru are by no means the only boaters to travel at night, though unlike Timothy and Pru, without the benefit of a TV company behind them!

As for damaging the infrastructure this couple are no more likely to do so than a good many others I see, and if John Wallace is so worried about scratches to his expensive craft then he perhaps should be looking to a venue other than the waterways for his relaxation?
