Car still in canal

THOUGH it was hoped to remove the car from the Rochdale Canal in Manchester, it is still there, though hoped to be removed later today.

The original stoppage notice from Canal & River Trust told that the car was in Butter Lane Lock, and would be removed on Monday, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Asked to wait

In the meantime boaters were asked to wait at Piccadilly Basin.

But the stoppage notice this morning, Thursday, tells that though the car has not yet been removed the navigation is open, stating that passage is possible past the car, but please proceed with caution...
