New waterways documentary

CHANNEL 4 is screening the first episode of a new canal documentary on Monday that perhaps will be somewhat better that the normal ones we have suffered, as it features actual boaters.

Prunella Scales and Timothy West 'star' in the four part series, Great Canal Journeys, which on the first episode will see them cruising their 'own' Kennet & Avon Canal, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Together 50 years

The pair, who have been together for 50 years, besides being revered actors, were very much involved in the restoration of the Kennet & Avon, and have furthered the restoration of other waterways during their time together and have been keen boaters during most of this time, with their narrowboat moored on the waterway.

Alas, it has been revealed that Pru is suffering from a form of Alzheimer's, that makes her forgetful, as will be noticed during the programme, but which makes this adventure on the waterways so poignant for them both.

Though a documentary, it will have its comedy and its tragedy and should be a 'must' for all waterway lovers. Monday 10th March on More 4 at 9pm.
