Lock walkways collapsing

TWO lock walkways collapsed yesterday leaving the passage over the locks somewhat precarious.

With Keith Gudgin reporting them and asking if this is a new trend?

The 'walk board' over Meaford Road Lock (33) on the Trent & Mersey Canal collapsed yesterday, Tuesday,  but was deemed so dangerous that it was replaced the same day, and though the navigation was closed for a short while whilst it was being repaired, it is now open.

Walkway number two collapses

Walkway two was on the Staffs & Worcs an Longford Lock (39) just above Penkridge, but this time the walkway had fallen off the gate completely, such was its condition.

But this is not felt dangerous at all, so the engineers attended and simply fastened a tape around it, with the the announcement that they will be back to fix it within the next few days.
