Now it's more leaks, this time on the failed Macclesfield culvert

IT IS NOT only the Leeds and Liverpool Canal that is suffering more leaks on its repaired culvert.

The culvert south of Kent Green Bridge (87) on the Macclesfield Canal, though we are told it is progressing well, further residual leaks have been identified by the contractors at the site, Keith Gudgin reports.

Accommodate boaters

But to accommodate boaters during part of the festive season, Canal & River Trust had organised a plan to ensure passage through the canal before Christmas.

This however is from today, Thursday, 21st December, at 10:00am when the stop planks were temporarily removed, allowing passage through the canal.

Then at 1:00pm tomorrow, Friday, stop planks will be reinstalled, and the canal will be closed, it giving just over one day of navigation.

Remain closed

The canal will then remain closed with stop planks in place between Bridge 85, Simpsons Bridge, and Lock 13, Hall Green Stop Lock, from then until the New Year when the trust will aim to provide another window of passage. As yet there is no notice of this.
