Vehicle strike closes Leeds & Liverpool

A VEHICLE strike has closed the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Burnley.

This is the bridge carrying Ormerod Road over the canal that has suffered a strike to its parapet, Keith Gudgin reports.

Falling masonry

The strike has caused both the waterway and towpath to be closed as there is the danger of falling masonry to both boats and people.

Canal & River Trust's tell its local team and contractors have been informed and are on their way to the site.

It is expected that the parapet will be made safe so the navigation can be reopened.
