Crash with police car closes Avon bridge
CLOPTON Bridge over the Avon was closed after a car hit a police car on the bridge.
This resulted in the driver of the car being arrested after he did a handbrake turn and then hit the police vehicle, with the bridge being damaged, Roger Fox reports.
The result was that it was closed to both navigation under the bridge and traffic on the bridge as an engineer deemed it unsafe.
Carrying woman and child
The driver undertaking the handbrake turn on the A3400 just before midnight on Wednesday was carrying a woman and a child, with all being treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries then taken to hospital.
Two police officers were treated for minor injuries but discharged at the scene.
In 2022 a collision between two cars on the bridge caused damage to the bridge with a car entering the river and the driver of that car drowning.
