The Wood End Lift Bridge saga continues

AND it is a saga indeed, with failure after failure.

Over the last four months alone this Peak Forest Canal lift bridge has had four failures, and this after a complete makeover beforehand that closed the bridge for weeks.

To allow passage

It was closed again over last week-end but was manned to allow passage yesterday, Monday, that was successful so the bridge will remain open until work starts.

This will be on Tuesday 7th November until Monday 13th November when the bridge will again be closed.

The work entails removing the old bearings and hydraulic cylinder, with it taken for overhaul which is estimated to take three days to complete. During this time the hydraulic hoses will be replaced.

The plan is to have the bridge reopened on Tuesday 14th November.
