BIDFORD Bridge over the Avon has been damaged again.
Once again a vehicle—this time a commercial vehicle—has crashed into the bridge damaging its parapet, Roger Fox reports.
Navigation open
Though the road was closed to traffic this has re-opened. The navigation under the bridge is still open, with the Avon Navigation Trust issuing emergency safety warnings to boaters to take care when passing under.
An early estimate is that the needed repairs are scheduled for September or October, with strict control of traffic in the meantime.
The last time the bridge was closed was in 2015 it being severely damaged by a large agricultural vehicle, being closed for months and costing £390,000 to repair.
