Prettying-up the Rochdale Nine

A SECTION of the Rochdale Nine in Manchester has been awarded Green Flag status.
The 600 yards pound between locks 87 and 89 has had a garden planted and now been given the award after the drive to tackle littering and anti-social behaviour, with the construction of the garden by volunteers working with Manchester City Council and Canal & River Trust, Alan Tilbury reports.
Brightens up the area
This section of the Rochdale Canal through Manchester has a terrible reputation, with many unexplained deaths and the haunt of homosexuals, so the garden is a wecome improvement to the area.
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
