NEAREST TO THE WATERWAY

The particular choice of supermarket is based on it being the nearest to the waterway. Most are major stores, and are most likely to fulfil all the needs of the boater in being able to stock-up for a period of cruising. The only exceptions are small convenience stores which are near to popular mooring places.

The larger stores such as Tesco Extra, Asda and the larger Sainsbury's have a massive range of non-food items, such as electrical goods, galley utensils, tools, etc. etc. and a huge selection of clothes. Most of the stores have been visited personally.

As well as selling food of every description, all the major supermarkets have facilities for supplying cash, usually 24 hours. All supply newspapers and magazines. Most sell writing materials, have stamps and postboxes. All are licenced to sell alcohol. All sell non-foods with many selling clothes. All the major stores provide a free-phone for calling a taxi.

Though Tesco tells us they are, some of its smaller stores are not open 24 hours. Though on Sundays Tesco stores are open half an hour before the official opening time of 10am, for browsing.
