I quite agree with Will Graham that 48 hours is not enough, though not necessarily for the same reasons.
The last two years have been spent exploring the North of England and I've commented to BW, with no success, that towns and cities need longer time limits. Those few boaters that get to Ripon or Sheffield are confronted by 48 hours only signs. What are you supposed to do in that time?
You get there just after lunch, visit the supermarket to restock and then its dinner. Next day you can visit and explore, but what attraction do you visit, the market, cathedral, art gallery, museum. You've only got one day so you can't do them all. Next day you have to leave. If it's Sheffield it means a 9am start, if it's Ripon you need to leave early enough to ensure you're at a suitable mooring by evening.
Yes, I agree that there needs to be space for short term visitors. That means these moorings need a proper mix of long and short term moorings. I hope with the birth of C & RT that local partnerships will bring this about. After all, we all spend money.
