I was brought up with the saying " Self Praise is No Praise "!

BW is one of the classic examples of what it means!

Praise only means something if it comes from the user, not the provider.

The situation as I see it is as follows...
Those at the top of BW have indulged in a propaganda campaign for the last 5 years (or more), at the tax payers expense, to convince everyone that they have been doing a wonderful job running the canals.
In reality the 'Ivory Towers Brigade' have been filling their bank accounts and pension funds with boaters and taxpayers money. If that meant decimating the numbers of skilled and knowledgeable staff at BW regional offices to enhance their bonuses, then that's what has happened. They don't care. Greed is their only motivation........
In complete contrast I would suggest Tom, Allan and the other contributors on this site are motivated by the desire to see the canal system survive (and hopefully flourish) for another 200 years. Money doesn't enter in to this; none of them make a penny from this site as far as I am aware.
Speaking personally, allowing BW propaganda to go unchallenged does not sit well with someone brought up in the 60's; besides The Cut is my home and it is being threatened by these 'looters in suits'.

Ralph

I heard today through the towpath telegraph that Alan Richards article of 13th August

http://www.narrowboatworld.com/index.php/news-flash/3489-where-our-money-goes

is causing a stir amongst BW staff. Apparently the the name 'narrowboatworld'  is being passed around lockies in the Yorkshire area at least and my understanding is that they are not too happy with their masters.

Well done Alan & Narrowbaotworld

My heart goes out to BW staff (and sadly ex staff) who are suffering so that directors can continue to pay themselves astronomical remuneration.

Unfortunately, most waterways media is constrained by advertising and will not rock the boat on this or other issues.

Similarly, many waterways organisations feel constrained and will not speak out for fear of getting on the wrong side of BW.

It is not me that should get the 'well done' but Narrowboatworld for having the courage to provide a platform for those who have something to say.
