IT'S ME, Sophie. Due to the popularity of my last scratchings here in narrowboatworld, folks have been panting for me to write some more. So, with Mr Canaldrifter's laptop and a dictionary to paw, here goes.

Locks on the Sheffield and South Yorkshire navigation are huge.  They need to be, to allow through the last remnants of commercial traffic.

TO BE FAIR, with all the reports of British Waterways neglect of the waterways infrastructure, and all the images of the results of such neglect on narrowboatworld's 'State of the waterways' gallery, it is good to be able to reported some good news for a change.

I HAVE just had to eat a large slice of humble pie. It tasted bitter, but was nutritious.

AFTER Sophie's canine contribution last month I am brushing dog hairs, paw print and dead wasp body parts off my keyboard. I write from the summit pound of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The level is slowly sinking.

Mr Canaldrifter is preoccupied with boating, so it's me, Sophie the Boat Lurcher, writing his column for him this time.
