No let-up with floods

THE continuing downpours are keeping the river levels well up, with boaters at river moorings completely stuck.

From the information we have received it is the same throughout the country, with all the navigable rivers still in flood we are told. It is particularly bad for those with river moorings, that face the added problem of the safety of their boats on what are often raging torrents.

The Trent is well up yet again, with no boats at either Shardlow or Sawley marinas being able to move, and those at Derby Boat Club on Sawley Cut in the same position.

Repair gates

At least it gave the chance to repair the gates at Sawley Flood Lock whilst the lock was impassible, as the picture shows.

There were Canaltime hirers actually living on the boats in Sawley Marina, being unable to move, with the boats already out being serviced yet again at Shardlow Village on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Boats moored on the Soar too have little chance of movement at the moment, with the river in flood.

The above picture is not of a canal but the flooded road to the lock cottage at the end of Sawley Cut.
