Another narrowboat burnt-out
Sunday, 22 January 2012 08:10

ANOTHER narrowboat has been added to the every increasing list of those being destroyed by fire.

Yet again the fire was believed to have been started by a a wood burning stove that became so hot it combusted, with the subsequent fire  quickly spreading to the rest of the boat, Rob McLean of the Boat Safety Scheme tells us.

Macclesfield Canal

This happened by the Puss in Boots pub in Macclesfield on the Macclesfield Canal during the late afternoon.

The emergency services were called, but the narrowboat was well alight by the time firefighters arrived. A cordon was quickly created around the boat in case of exploding gas cylinders.

Firefighters fought the blaze using hoses from the nearby bridge and the towpath using canal water to douse the blaze, that took around an hour, but the boat was destroyed.
