THE authorities are to tackle vandalism and anti-social behaviour on the Witham with an enforcement event this coming week-end.
There have been persistent problems on the river, particularly in Boston, so a multi-agency team including Boston Borough Council, British Transport Police and British Waterways has been formed to tackle the issue, with the crackdown on 31st July and 1st August.
Boats vandalised
Boats have been vandalised and lines untied, with the problems being so bad that some boat owners were avoiding the area, according to the police.
Community Beat Manager, Pc Fran Harrod, explained:
"This will be an excellent opportunity for local people and visiting boat owners to access all the relevant agencies in one place and to talk about how we move forward from here.
"We are all committed to tackling the anti-social behaviour issues that have blighted these locations in recent months and are keen to listen to the views and opinions of those who have been affected."
