There was a horse drawn boat

Your correspondent is incorrect when he states that there hasn't been a horse-drawn boat through Camden for 50 years.

I was a crew member when the Horseboating Society took Maria from Guide Bridge, Manchester to the National Festival at Waltham Abbey in 2000.

The trip was not without its difficulties, we had to shaft past the moorings by Maida Hill Tunnel, bow-haul from the off-side at the Marylebone moorings (Both times the biggest problem was persuading Bonny the boat-horse that eating boaters' plant pots was not a friendly act), and (of course) organise brief stoppages to allow the boat to be legged through Maida Hill and Islington tunnels.

There is sure to be a diversionary route that will allow Ilkeston's horse to by-pass the obstructed towing path while the boat is shafted past.
